    Fascinating chart! The earliest ebook reader that I know of was the Sony Data Discman, introduced in 1990. The books were on miniature CDs that were inserted into the player. You can see a photo of the Data Discman at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_Discman. When I worked at Hoover’s Business Press in the early 90’s, we produced a book for the Data Discman, but the device never caught on with consumers. It took another 17 years for Amazon to invent the Kindle, and now Sony’s current product, Sony Reader, has only a tiny market share.
